After letting my iPhone 3G's battery drain to the point it shut off I plugged in the SP2000 and was able to get a full 100% charge in just over 2hrs. With the remainder of the power I was able to charge an iPhone 3GS an extra 25% before it was depleted. To recharge the SP2000 using the wall charger it took about 4hrs. I recently took it camping and left it in the sun all day. Since I never actually used up all the charge I wasn't able to see how long it would take to do a full charge in the sun. Even with topping off a few phones during the day I was always left with 100% charge at the end of the day charging in the sun. One day I charged an iPhone 3G from the 20% warning to 100% and was able to completely recharge the SP2000 in the sun before the evening. So I would say that 6hrs is about right to charge in the sun, maybe a bit more. I think the problem Brian was having with it taking 4-5 days was because the unit was behind a window which filters the light. The only problem I saw with charging it in the sun is you don't really know when you have a full charge. When you plug it in the wall you can see the 4th LED blinking, and once it's fully charged all 4 LEDs are on. When you charge it in the sun you only have one red LED which is on that tells you it's getting a charge. Once you reach the 4th LED while charging in the sun and you press the battery indicator button you will see all 4 LEDs light up indicating a full charge even if the unit is still topping off the battery. I tested this by plugging it into the car after seeing all 4 LEDs on in the sun and sure enough it showed the final LED blinking which meant it still wasn't at 100%. For me this is a minor issue since I leave it in the sun all day anyways. I waited for 6 months for the SP2000 to come to Canada and finally just ordered it from the US. By Wayne I bought this item a few weeks ago and already had several other Xpal products that I and my staff use daily. This looked like a great idea, and we had high hopes that this would allow staff members to keep their phones topped off while operating on sites with no power; which happens quite often. At first, I believed we were misusing the product, but after going over the manual and reading the other reviews, have come to believe the item simply doesn't work. It will not charge an iphone and does not appear to be able to charge an Xpal XP1000 Iphone case either. Based on observations to date, it seems that this item actually will take a fully charged Iphone and drain it entirely in approximately 1 hour. I strongly reccomend that you avoid this product entirely, however, if someone can make something of this type that works, my company would buy 50 of them tomorrow. Doesn't work and no service By Beth My brand new xpal sp2000 won't charge my cell phone or ipod nano. It's fully charged (all the blue lights are lit) but completely DRAINS my cell phone even though "battery charging" is blinking on my phone. Repeated emails and phone calls to technical support have gone unanswered. You might get lucky and purchase one that works but I wouldn't recommend this product. See all 8 customer reviews...
