The coolest thing is the builtin 400 Watt inverter which allows you plug in almost any AC powered device. Great for emergency power or just portable camping power! Unit charges quickly using the supplied DC adapter or in about a day using the supplied AC adapter. The only drawback is that the builtin air compressor isn't fan cooled so it can only operate about 10-15 minutes at a time before it over heats and air flow could be higher. Another option would be to plug in a high flow, heavy duty air compressor into the builtin 12V outlet or inverter. 67 of 67 people found the following review helpful. Nifty safety backup. And after you deflate your vehicle tires for beach travel, you can get back to street pressures without a lot of hassle. The Powerpack 400 is a bit pricier for a reason - it packs more ampere-hours into a small unit. I take it camping into remote locations where I'm guaranteed that I won't have to walk out due to a dead battery. So then I'm comfortable running some low wattage lights in my tent. I can even watch a DVD movie on my iMac G5 computer without running out of power. Preliminary Review By military shopper On my way to Afghanistan in a few days and bought this gadget to help with the expected recharge limitations on my netbook. FYI I have the HP Mini 210-1010NR. Anywho just wanted to get a quick pre-liminary review out that for people considering buying. Pro - The size is great very compact and doesn't come with some big bulky charging cable. Also has an impressive amount of interchangeable tips in the box for many different devices. Cons - This may have more to do with my mis-understanding of the term 'ready to use out of the box' for me that meant I could take it directly out of the box and use it charge my computer. Luckily I did not trust this statement and opened it to get familiar with the product. And the instructions inside says always charge this product for 8 hours before using the first time. I don't know about everyone else but that kinda contradicts the ready to use out of the box claim to me. The second issue was that I was not able to use my netbook cable (as the instructions stated) to charge it up. I had to use my husband cable from his full size laptop. Even though the camera is not a full SLR the flash works in full automatic mode off the hot shoe. It also has manual controls (pick from 6 preset distances) for use in manual mode. It has a diffuser and bounce backboard that slide in the casing. The stofen diffuser is a nice extra. The flash is half the price of the comparable canon. The batteries and charger do the job but the charger takes too long. I like the energizer charger I find at CVS that fully charges the batteries in 3-4 hours as opposed to 10+ with this kits charger. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. All the functions are still operational but that means nothing if it just dont throw out light. I highly recomend you to save a little extra and get a real canon flash as the 430ex. For anyone needing extra time from their current battery By Patrick Murphy The APC model number is UPB70, so that is how I will refer to it here. The UPB70 is thin and lightweight, about the size and heft of a National Geographic magazine. It is covered in a very pleasant-feeling non-skid coating, which is beneficial since the preferred usage is to sit your notebook on it. The back is slightly higher than the front, which helps with the typing angle. Under my ultraportable 10.6" Sony Vaio TR1, the computer is smaller than the battery, so the battery sticks out about 1 inch on all sides. This is not a problem; the battery becomes like a carrying tray. Under my 15.4" standard size Gateway MX6453, the computer is larger than the battery by about 1" on each side. This makes it awkward if you go to pick up the notebook/UPB70 system as one unit. It is best to use two hands. This leads to one of my minor nitpicks with the system. It is unwieldly and a bit unsafe to move the system when a larger notebook is on top of the battery. The solution, though is simple: Use a couple of strips of Velcro! This way, you can pick up the notebook/battery system as one unit. Attach so the hard bristly side is on the UPB70 and the soft fuzzy side is on the underside of your notebook. The soft Velcro will be a non-scratch "foot" for your computer, when you are not using the UPB70 battery underneath. The only other minor nitpick is that the power cable from the UPB70 to the notebook is about 18" too long (at least, when the notebook is right on top of the UPB70). But a cable tie will tame the cable so it is out of the way. The UPB70 outputs 4 voltages: 15, 16, 19 and 20 volts. The included compatibility chart lists which one to use with your notebook. Note that if you change the voltage selection switch, you must press the round silver Status button on the UPB70 so the unit is reset for the new voltage. The UPB70 comes with 8 different tip adapter sets. This is a definite plus since this allows you to fit it to many different notebooks. (Some other power systems come with only one tip set, so you would have to buy additional sets at around $10 each. This is both expensive and inconvenient if you have more than one notebook in the house or office.) Not sure if it is compatible with your notebook? Visit APC's site and search for the product. [...]. Note that the UPB70 does NOT come with its own charger. You use the AC power supply that came with your notebook to charge the UPB70. (This is one reason for having the 8 tip sets. You select the correct type of tip that allows your power supply to plug into the UPB70.) Helpful hint: If you use more than one notebook, make a label for the underside of the UPB70 that lists each notebook's name, voltage, and tip adapter set. Mine reads "Gateway 19v B/b, SonyTR 16v E/e". This way you don't have to travel with the compatibility chart; just look at the label. You can keep the UPB70 attached to your notebook at all times if you want. Plugging in your power supply to the UPB70 will "pass-through" power to the notebook. Indicator lights show the charge status in 4 increments (25-50-75-100%); this is very useful. There is a handy USB connector so you can charge or run devices which need standard 5-volt USB power. As for runtime, this can vary widely. It depends on your notebook's power draw. If you have an ultraportable that's designed for long battery life, the UPB70 could add up to 6 additional hours. But if you have a standard 15.4" business computer doing office-type work, the extra time could be 2-3 hours. A very rough guide for most people (those whose notebooks did not come with hulking-large 12-cell extended life battery packs!) is "whatever battery time you are getting now, double it." AWESOME backup batter / power supply By Tuxedo Traveler A long time ago I got a backup battery similar to this for $29 at Walmart. It was stolen at the airport, and I needed to replace it, and Wally World no longer carries the one I had. I found this one here, obviously more expensive, but was headed into an area with limited power in Utila, Honduras. This turned out to be a VERY adequate power supply. I used this to recharge my Asus Netbook, my camera battery, my MP3/video player, and my cell phone. I have no idea how long it would have lasted, as it was sufficient to keep me powered up for the duration of my trip, even on the 6-legged journey and flights - without ever recharging this little battery. Granted, all of my electronics were fully charged when I left, and when I had access to 110 I would recharge the netbook with that, but the rest of the time I relied on this little battery and it was GREAT. It also was less than half the size of my original stolen battery, so it was super nice for packing light. By JS I bought this on sale at a T-Mobile store; it's been out of stock for a while at Amazon. It does exactly what it's meant to do. Doubles the amount of time you can leave the myTouch 4G unplugged. No more worries about doing all the fun things this great phone can do, but not making it through the day. Now, long days are welcome! The only negatives are this case turns the slim phone bulky (but protects it), and it's made of black rubber material to which lint & dust stick. 9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed By JRD Easy to use, makes the phone too heavy. Most disappointing: the powerskin battery only adds 25 to 30% additional life to the phone battery. I think this is because the powerskin is always trying to force charge the phone battery, even if the phone battery is already fully charged. I found by using the powerskin, without plugging into the phone, a much better idea. By waiting until the phone battery is low before plugging the powerskin into the phone would quickly recharge the phone battery. Then unplugging the powerskin. Using this method more than doubles the endurance. Recommendation: All this plugging & unplugging to get better endurance is a pain. However, if the manufacture would design a simple On/Off switch to the powerskin, it would be perfect. Possibly adding a battery management circuit would also be helpful. It keeps my phone charged all day and I have no problem with the force charging like others. The case is very light, it does make the phone a little bulky but it's worth it. The English is also not useful, a translation, I guess, from the Chinese characters also on the form. Finally, from the translations, the specifics of use are not clear for the indicator scale lights on the top, the button also on top, and the LED light on the end. These instructions need to be written as if the writer wants to convey how to use the device.... After letting my iPhone 3G's battery drain to the point it shut off I plugged in the SP2000 and was able to get a full 100% charge in just over 2hrs. With the remainder of the power I was able to charge an iPhone 3GS an extra 25% before it was depleted. To recharge the SP2000 using the wall charger it took about 4hrs. I recently took it camping and left it in the sun all day. Since I never actually used up all the charge I wasn't able to see how long it would take to do a full charge in the sun. Even with topping off a few phones during the day I was always left with 100% charge at the end of the day charging in the sun. One day I charged an iPhone 3G from the 20% warning to 100% and was able to completely recharge the SP2000 in the sun before the evening. So I would say that 6hrs is about right to charge in the sun, maybe a bit more. I think the problem Brian was having with it taking 4-5 days was because the unit was behind a window which filters the light. The only problem I saw with charging it in the sun is you don't really know when you have a full charge. When you plug it in the wall you can see the 4th LED blinking, and once it's fully charged all 4 LEDs are on. When you charge it in the sun you only have one red LED which is on that tells you it's getting a charge. Once you reach the 4th LED while charging in the sun and you press the battery indicator button you will see all 4 LEDs light up indicating a full charge even if the unit is still topping off the battery. I tested this by plugging it into the car after seeing all 4 LEDs on in the sun and sure enough it showed the final LED blinking which meant it still wasn't at 100%. For me this is a minor issue since I leave it in the sun all day anyways. I waited for 6 months for the SP2000 to come to Canada and finally just ordered it from the US. By Wayne I bought this item a few weeks ago and already had several other Xpal products that I and my staff use daily. This looked like a great idea, and we had high hopes that this would allow staff members to keep their phones topped off while operating on sites with no power; which happens quite often. At first, I believed we were misusing the product, but after going over the manual and reading the other reviews, have come to believe the item simply doesn't work. It will not charge an iphone and does not appear to be able to charge an Xpal XP1000 Iphone case either. Based on observations to date, it seems that this item actually will take a fully charged Iphone and drain it entirely in approximately 1 hour. I strongly reccomend that you avoid this product entirely, however, if someone can make something of this type that works, my company would buy 50 of them tomorrow. It is light weight, attractive, and works perfectly. I originally purchased it because I use a $30 iPhone application called "GolfShot." It is an app that functions much like the hand held GPS units golfers use to measure distances on a golf course, except it keeps your score and stats as you go. Also uploads all info to the GolfShot website. Anyway, there is not enough battery power in the iPhone to operate this app for a complete round of golf-thus the need for the Energizer. With the energizer, there is plenty of power. I use it often just to recharge my iPhone on the go, I travel with it and so on. Pros - Holds its charge for a long time. You can charge the unit and pick it up several weeks later and it is still charged and ready to go. You can leave and use the iPhone in it if you please. Light weight. Fits phone perfectly. Is attractive and not clunky at all. I saw a review on YouTube where the guy said that if you held it upside down the iPhone fell out. The connection on mine is tight and secure. The YouTube reviewer also said there was no charge indicator on the unit but it does have an indicator light. No problems. Most impotently, it has a LED indicator letting you know how much power is left in the energizer. Cooper I bought this product because my old case had gotten into bad shape and I thought the additional benefit of a battery extender was a great idea. It seems to carry 1 to 1 1/2 charges. When I need it for the protective case I leave it on and charge case and phone together. When I am making a lot of calls, I take the device off the phone and only put it on when a charge is needed. It does add weight and bulk but it is still not hard to handle. For protection, the face and speaker end of the iphone are not covered but the weight is on the back and the microphone end so if it is dropped, the case hits the ground first. I just wish it fit differently. Its a little bulky and makes the phone feel heavy. However it does do what it claims and extends battery life. But a note for the makers of this product: make it slimmer and fit the entire phone. However there are a few things you need to know before you buy. It is advertised as compatible with all major cell phones. The actual charger is a generic battery operated "thing". The problem is, it comes with a couple of adapters and they DO NOT fit all cell phones. Chances are you will have to get an adapter specific to your phone. Communications with this company is not easy( AMAZON is no help with third-party sellers). With effort you need to navigate through their website , find the long list of possible adapters , none of which are identified for a particular phone model.( I have a Samsung Walkman which takes a TA112 adapter.) Then you need to contact the company; I left two phone messages, they never got back to me, and it took three e-mails to find out which one fits the phone. They are "free" with a $ 199 shipping charge - no big deal. The adapter I needed took a week to get to me. If you have patience, it winds up is good to have one. It also works better than the Energizer model is similar. This unit has an on / off button, and a flashlight. The best feature is the built-in battery condition meter (3 LEDs). It will let you know when to change batteries. Battery life varies depending on the level of charge on the cell phone or iPod. The customer service department is nearly nonexistent. I emailed them three times and left 3 messages on the customer service answering machine I was trying to order an extra ipod adapter as well as connectors to new models of cell phones. Got a short email that stated that they do not sell the ipod adapter separately. They answered none of my other questions. The product is very good; just hope you don't have any questions, or difficulties with the adapters. Fleming I bought this to have a little extra battery power for my cell phone when I travel. I since use it for my two cameras, MP3 player, GPS, and a couple game controllers. If you have anything that can be plugged into a USB port to charge and eats batteries, you NEED one of these!! Period. Consider a pack of batteries is about $6, an extra battery for your cell phone can cost $10-40, so this will save so much money in the long run. It charges quick and holds it for a long time. I'm typically able to charge my cell phone twice on a single charge of this battery. Revised - don't buy - false advertising By Mark Twain I bought this instead of spare batteries. I am now able to charge my camcorder, cell phone(s), Nintendo DSi, and camera all with one unit I still need to order a Sony cell phone tip and Nintendo DSi tip - but these are standard on the web site and free. I think i pay shipping, but still a better deal then iGo that chargers for every tip. One great plus is that the USB port puts out 1000mA, so smartphones will charge at the wall charger rate rather then the USB port rate. Not sure why the one review had trouble with the web site, it works fine for me on my older machine. The site is Flash - but they do let you download all the product manuals in PDF - that is where to find the answers. To bad this device has less then 5 stars because someone is rating a product based on his internet connection. EDIT: I am revising my review as the product does not have the power listed on the packaging, and Energizer support takes weeks to respond. The product box says 4000mAh @ 5v. This should reload a smartphone with a 1500 mAh battery 2 times, even taking into account the power loss (note that most smartphones use a 5V charger 800 mA) was only 1.5 when my phone charges were still 30%. Support replaced my first product, and then finally someone told me that the unit is actually a battery 4000mAh 3.7V LiP, and conversion to 5V gives only about 2400mAh. OK - but that's not how the package is announced. For the price, a spare battery is smaller and a better investment. I left the issue open with Energizer, but according to their lethargic reaction to the past, I do not expect much. Buyer attention. Unresolved issue - waiting on the customer service manager to call me. Up to now, have thanked me for letting their packaging is misleading. Also, if you want to feed the Droid X, you need to buy a touch more expensive - is not free. But why? The "automatic" part after an 8-hour timer built into it. Plugging pop in the batteries, and when the batteries he likes it or not they have charged a full 8 hours. The batteries have an exceptional performance in comparison to the alkaline expensive. Lost within six months of rechargeable probably half of their nominal capacity of 2400 mAh. My NiMH Energizers were announced to be good for 1000 charge cycles, but this amount was more like 100 if not less spin. I thought that the burden of 8 hours may not be healthy for them, so I decided to make a better battery charger with automatic detection and adjustment of the charging time to search for each battery. I examined several good Autoloader handle each battery separately. Sony BCG-34HRMD4 seemed ideal for the following reasons: (1) reasonable price, with four large batteries included, (2) 110-240 Universal Voltage, (3) no-nonsense information about the loading process, (4) for rejuvenate the function - very useful for NiMH batteries (5), ease of use - it would have been used by several people with varying degrees of technical expertise, I did not want a super-duper a split second blink-your-eye Quick Charger because I'm not real anxious to get the batteries charged, the stronger the current battery charge heat to a boil and reduce their duration. "Normal" was good for my needs, so I was really happy to read comments in the "Super Speed" is misleading. Shame on you Sony! Overall: This is a magazine of high quality, highly recommended. He is a well-known brand, is designed to last a long time, no surprises. By Gina Alayyan It all started when I thought it would be cool to buy an Energizer Energy To Go (as above) I bought it at Staples for $ 20 I bought two of them. I was unhappy that each of them only my phone free of charge from empty to a maximum of 75%. But then one day (today) I had it in my pocket as I usually do before I go to school, come home and get it out of my pocket was the Micro-USB connector can be used to connect my phone broke and failed, and used the small button to the placement test battery had fallen out. You will see a link with a small cable with the equipment and charging what you want. the small "port" was broken and my right hand in his pocket. I was stunned! And very angry and still am! do not buy it in all conditions. but if you buy that moved, you should go to the energy model XP2000 Energi ..
