The coolest thing is the builtin 400 Watt inverter which allows you plug in almost any AC powered device. Great for emergency power or just portable camping power! Unit charges quickly using the supplied DC adapter or in about a day using the supplied AC adapter. The only drawback is that the builtin air compressor isn't fan cooled so it can only operate about 10-15 minutes at a time before it over heats and air flow could be higher. Another option would be to plug in a high flow, heavy duty air compressor into the builtin 12V outlet or inverter. 67 of 67 people found the following review helpful. Nifty safety backup. By Gary Cunningham This is a solid product. I didn't think I needed the built-in air compressor, but it suddenly saved the day for a few bike tires. And after you deflate your vehicle tires for beach travel, you can get back to street pressures without a lot of hassle. The Powerpack 400 is a bit pricier for a reason - it packs more ampere-hours into a small unit. I take it camping into remote locations where I'm guaranteed that I won't have to walk out due to a dead battery. So then I'm comfortable running some low wattage lights in my tent. I can even watch a DVD movie on my iMac G5 computer without running out of power. It recharges using the car's cigarettte lighter and, while you're at home you can leave it on the AC-DC charger indefinitely. Preliminary Review By military shopper On my way to Afghanistan in a few days and bought this gadget to help with the expected recharge limitations on my netbook. FYI I have the HP Mini 210-1010NR. Anywho just wanted to get a quick pre-liminary review out that for people considering buying. Pro - The size is great very compact and doesn't come with some big bulky charging cable. Also has an impressive amount of interchangeable tips in the box for many different devices. Cons - This may have more to do with my mis-understanding of the term 'ready to use out of the box' for me that meant I could take it directly out of the box and use it charge my computer. Luckily I did not trust this statement and opened it to get familiar with the product. And the instructions inside says always charge this product for 8 hours before using the first time. I don't know about everyone else but that kinda contradicts the ready to use out of the box claim to me. The second issue was that I was not able to use my netbook cable (as the instructions stated) to charge it up. I had to use my husband cable from his full size laptop. They claim to have lifetime free tips but you must pay $3.95 S&H for each. Even the tips they send you don't fit the devices. Trying to deal with the company is horrible. With the AC adapter the red light goes off, but with solar energy it seems to be red all the time. I've left it out in the sunlight for a few days, and it seems like the charge does not even compare to using the adapter. Even though the camera is not a full SLR the flash works in full automatic mode off the hot shoe. It also has manual controls (pick from 6 preset distances) for use in manual mode. It has a diffuser and bounce backboard that slide in the casing. The stofen diffuser is a nice extra. The flash is half the price of the comparable canon. The batteries and charger do the job but the charger takes too long. I like the energizer charger I find at CVS that fully charges the batteries in 3-4 hours as opposed to 10+ with this kits charger. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. I tried contacting vivitar but there is no response. Now I have a pice of equipment that does everything exept lighting my scene. All the functions are still operational but that means nothing if it just dont throw out light. I highly recomend you to save a little extra and get a real canon flash as the 430ex.
